Does acupuncture hurt?

The needles used in acupuncture are extremely fine, and so insertion does not give rise to a sharp painful sensation. Overall it is a comfortable treatment. The most common sensation is of a mild dull ache around the area where a needle has been inserted. It is also common to feel slightly drowsy and relaxed. Some people do not feel any sensations at all. This does not mean that acupuncture will not be effective.
